Section 2.7 Input and Output (I/O) Devices

Microcontrollers interact with the external environment by means of input and output devices. Input devices gather information from the outside world. Input devices can include switches, sensors, and keypads. (Common computer inputs include keyboard, mouse, touch screen, microphone, switches, and light detectors.)
Output devices allow a microcontroller to display information for humans to see. Output devices can include LEDs, LCD screens, and segmented displays. (Common computer outputs include monitor, speakers, haptic feedback, LEDs, displays, and buzzers.)
